Publish to InstaWP
Put your site online with InstaWP hosting in a few steps: sign in, pick an address, region and plan, confirm, and go live. What happens after, and what to do if it fails.
Publish in the builder's top bar takes a draft live on InstaWP, InstaWP Studio's hosting partner. The steps are Sign in → Address → Plan → Publishing → Live; you can go back before publishing starts, and your choices are kept.
1. Sign in #
Building never needs an account; publishing does. The first step offers two ways side by side:
- I have an InstaWP account → Sign in opens InstaWP's sign-in page in a small window (or the whole tab if pop-ups are blocked). Approve InstaWP Studio and you are back.
- New to InstaWP? → Create a free account opens InstaWP's sign-up and lists what comes next: create the account, add a card, pick an address and plan. By InstaWP's own terms, the first card on an account adds $25 of hosting credit, valid for 60 days.
Signing in also puts your sites under the account, so you see the same list on every device. See Your sites and account.
2. Address #
- Choose a site name of 3 to 30 letters, digits or hyphens on one of your team's addresses, such as
yourname.instawp.site. It is checked as you type. - If your InstaWP account has several teams, pick one; sites are published into pay-per-use teams.
- A line says where the site will run: Runs in North America · Change. Change shows the regions InstaWP offers; pick the one nearest your visitors.
- Your own domain lets you buy a domain for the site here. See Your own domain. A domain you already own is connected after the site is live.
3. Plan #
The plan starts on Plus when it is offered. Change plan lists InstaWP's plans with their monthly prices and a line on each. A paid plan needs a card on the team owner's InstaWP account; if there is none, Add a card on InstaWP opens InstaWP's card page, or asks you to have the owner add one.
4. Confirm and publish #
The button reads Publish for $N/mo and opens a confirmation that repeats the address, team, plan, price, region and who is billed, plus the domain's price and renewal if you chose one. Nothing is uploaded or created until you confirm.
Then the draft is packed and sent to InstaWP, and the screen shows the import's progress. The work finishes on the server.
5. Live #
The Live screen shows the site's name and address with Open site and Keep editing, and links to WordPress admin (a one-time login, no password to remember) and Site details. If something needs you, such as a domain's registrant email to confirm, a box says so.
From here:
- The Publish button is replaced by a green Live pill, so a second billed site cannot be created by accident.
- Every further edit goes straight to the live site. See Edit the live site.
- Add to Claude and Add to ChatGPT connect the site to an AI assistant of your own. See Connect Claude or ChatGPT.
- Search engines may now index the site; the draft kept them away.
- Caching, security, email and backup plugins that could not work in the draft work now.
After publishing #
- Change plan in Site details lists the same plans; InstaWP applies a change at once and bills the team daily from that day. A downgrade the site no longer fits is refused in InstaWP's words.
- Buy a domain and Connect one you own are in Site details under Domain.
- Publish again in Site details sends the draft saved in your browser to the live site once more, keeping the address, plan and domains and replacing the live content in place. Use it if a publish came out wrong. The live site's current content is backed up first.
- Manage on InstaWP opens the site in InstaWP's dashboard for backups, staging, DNS and billing.
- Deleting the site in InstaWP Studio removes it from your list and says plainly that the live site keeps running, and billing, on InstaWP. Tick Also delete it from InstaWP to remove it there too.
If it fails #
- A refusal from InstaWP, such as a taken name, a missing card or a region no longer offered, shows InstaWP's reason and can be retried.
- A failure in the middle of site creation stops with a message asking you to check InstaWP rather than risk a second charge. Errors stay on the Publishing screen with Check status, and a second site is never created while one publish is running or uncertain.
- If the live site came out empty or wrong, Publish again sends your draft once more.
