Install plugins and themes from a link
Name up to five WordPress.org plugins and five themes in the link; the new site installs them as it opens.
https://studio.instawp.com/?plugins=woocommerce,contact-form-7&themes=astra
Try this link. It starts a blank site with Classic Editor, Contact Form 7 and Astra.
Naming plugins and themes #
Use each plugin's or theme's slug: the last part of its WordPress.org address. For https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/ the slug is contact-form-7.
plugins=andthemes=take a list separated by commas (or spaces).- WordPress Playground's own form also works, one name per parameter:
?plugin=woocommerce&plugin=contact-form-7&theme=astra. Both forms can be mixed. - Up to 5 plugins and 5 themes. A name given twice counts once. Names past the fifth, and anything that is not a slug, are left out, and the chat says which ones were skipped.
What gets installed #
- Plugins are installed and activated. A plugin that is already on the site is activated, not downloaded again.
- Themes are installed but not activated. The pages, header, footer and brand styles InstaWP Studio designs belong to the InstaWP Studio theme, so the site keeps it. Switch themes yourself under Appearance → Themes in WordPress. A blueprint can activate a theme if you need that.
- Each plugin and theme installs on its own, so one that fails does not stop the others.
Progress and results #
The loading screen shows Adding your plugins and themes, names the one being installed ("Installing the plugin “contact-form-7” from WordPress.org (2 of 4)…") and fills a progress bar. Large plugins such as WooCommerce take a little longer.
When the site opens, the chat says:
Installed and activated the plugins Classic Editor 1.7.0 and Contact Form 7 6.2.4.1. Open Plugins
Installed the theme Astra 4.14.2. Your site keeps its Studio theme, which holds the design; switch under Appearance → Themes if you want it.
Anything that failed gets its own warning with WordPress's reason, for example Could not install the plugin “my-plugin”: Plugin not found.
Limits #
- Only plugins and themes in the WordPress.org directory can be named. A paid plugin sold on its own website can be uploaded later under Plugins → Add New in WordPress.
- The plugins and themes go on the new site the link creates, never on a site the visitor already has.
