Edit in chat

Ask for changes in plain words, from one headline to a whole new page. How requests are checked, what Done and Partially done mean, and how Undo works.

Updated

The chat beside the preview is where most of the work happens. Say what you want in your own words; the assistant changes the site, saves it, checks the result and tells you what it did.

What to ask for #

  • Wording: "Change the hero headline to 'A little further from ordinary.' Keep everything else exactly as it is."
  • Design: "Make the services section calmer", "use a warmer palette", "bigger photos in the gallery", "give every button rounded corners".
  • New pages and posts: "Add an About page with our story and the team", "start a blog with three posts about seasonal menus". New pages are designed in the site's style and added to the menu.
  • Copies: "Clone the Features page as Solutions", "make the Classes hero look like the Home hero". The design comes across exactly, ready for new wording.
  • Sitewide changes: "Remove the arrow from every button" is applied everywhere in one step.
  • Pictures: "Swap the photo in the hero for a sunlit kitchen", or attach an image to the message. See Images.
  • WordPress things: "Install WooCommerce and add these products", "add a contact form", "change the site title", "set up tabs for the FAQ". After a plugin, shop or settings change, the reply shows exactly what changed in WordPress. See Plugins and WordPress features.

Give facts exactly as you want them on the page. If you do not give a detail the page needs, the assistant fills in a plausible one for you to edit.

While it works #

A status line under the chat says what is being done: Editing the hero section…, Saving your homepage…, Checking the layout…. When a change writes a section, the preview reloads on that page and scrolls it into view. Stop ends a request early; what was saved stays.

Keep the tab open while a request runs: WordPress runs in this tab, and closing or reloading it stops the work. A request that has gone on for a while shows a reminder, and the browser asks before you leave.

Done, or not quite #

Every request ends with a status that InstaWP Studio measures itself, under the reply and in the pill at the bottom of the preview:

StatusMeaning
DoneEverything you asked for was made and checked.
Partially doneSome of it was made. A short Remaining list says what was not, in your words.
BlockedIt could not be done as asked. The line says why.
Not verifiedThe change was saved but its effect could not be checked, for example a WordPress change whose result is not visible on the page.
No changesThe request changed nothing, and the reply says so instead of claiming otherwise.

When a reply says something now looks a certain way, InstaWP Studio looks at the page itself and says what it actually saw. Something you asked to add later, such as a section whose details you will send, is remembered and checked when you bring it back.

Undo #

Undo in the preview toolbar takes back the last request: pages, posts, the shared header and footer, colours, fonts and styles. Typing undo in chat does the same without using any credits.

  • Undo is one step. The next request that writes something replaces it. Undo never refunds credits.
  • It is still there after a reload, a dropped connection or a InstaWP Studio update.
  • If you edited the same page in WordPress in the meantime, Undo refuses rather than overwrite your edit, and the chat says so.
  • A plugin install, a settings change or other WordPress operation the assistant ran as code is not reversed by Undo. Such rows in the chat carry a struck-through Undo icon.
  • The assistant remembers what was undone, so "did you remove it? add it back" is answered from what happened.

Reset this site in the ⋯ menu wipes the draft and starts over; it asks first.

Pages, posts and admin screens mentioned in a reply are links. A link to a page on your site opens it in the preview; anything else opens in a new tab. Ask to see something ("show me the blog", "open the plugins screen") and the assistant takes the preview there.

The chat panel #

Drag the divider to resize the chat. Collapse it with the button in the chat header or Cmd/Ctrl+B. The Desktop / Phone switch in the preview toolbar shows the site at phone width in a real 390px frame.
